The Statue of Lincoln They Tried To Stop

Despite strong protests and demonstrations, the life-size statue of Abraham Lincoln and his son, Tad, was officially dedicated on April 5, 2003, the anniversary of their visit in 1865 to Richmond - where the President came in peace "to bind up the nation's wounds" at the end of the Civil War.

Now, visitors from around the nation and the world come to Richmond to see the statue and photograph friends and family seated on the bench beside Lincoln and young Tad.

"This is the most important statue of Lincoln in the world," accourding to Joseph Garrera, president of the Lincoln Group of New York. Lincoln scholars, historians, and art critics are equally enthusiastic about the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Capital of the Confederacy.

The non-profit U.S. Historical Society commissioned the renowned American artist David Frech to sculpt the statue, and has now authorized the creation of 8 1/2 inch museum quality sculptures. This edition is in hot-cast solid bronze. Crafted from an original master, also sculpted by Mr. Frech, each statue carries an engraved brass plaque commemorating the historic 1865 visit.

You are invited to acquire one of the solid bronze statues and become a "Friend of Lincoln in Richmond." You will receive a certificate of authenticity, signed by the sculptor and personalized with your name - recorded in the Society's Lincoln Archives. Proceeds benefit the Lincoln Statue Project. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
